Mayor Davis Announces Date of Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday

The Reform City Council took place on March 21, 2023. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Melody Davis. Councilmember Richard Richardson was not in attendance.
   The council approved the minutes of the March 7, 2023, meeting as well as the payables from the March 8, 2023, through March 21, 2023.
  The meeting began with new business, where Mayor Davis announced the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday that will begin on July 21, 2023, and will end on July 23, 2023.

REFORM-The Mayor of the City of Reform Melody Davis discussed new and positive changes coming to her city in an interview with the Pickens County Herald.

According to Mayor Davis, Reform is on the up- coming road to the modern age building up a new store of a Family Dollar/Dollar Tree, helping to open up a black-owned motel out of Mississippi across from the West Alabama Bank, and placing an ice machine in between Jack’s restaurant and the car lot on Hwy 82.

Reform Police called for report of shooting

Shots fired on Fifth Street Southwest

PICKENS COUNTY-Reform Police were called to a residence in the 300 block of Fifth Street Southwest at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of a shooting.
Upon arriving they found two men deceased in the driveway. It appears they died from gunshot wounds. Officers with the Aliceville, Carrollton and Gordo police departments responded to the scene to assist.

REFORM- On January 18, 2022, the Reform city council meeting was called to order by Mayor Melody Davis.
The council approved the minutes as well as the payables.
Beginning in old business, Mayor Davis called on Pamela Trammell of the West Alabama Regional Commission to speak on the work being put into the test well situation. Trammell opened by passing contracts to the council members to be discussed later.

 

Reform Public Library Reopens with After School Programs

REFORM-The Reform Public Library held a reopening event Tuesday, January 4, 2022, after being closed for almost two years.  It has been closed since the beginning of COVID. It has reopened with Chandra Colvin as the new director.
Colvin has two years of community college and some continuing education in early childhood development. Colvin is also involved in feeding programs for the community. She is very community minded and wants to bring the community together with her new library position.

 

Reform Council approves 2021-2022 proposed budget

REFORM – On Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 7 p.m., the Reform city council meeting was called to order with the invocation given by Council member Richardson. Roll call was taken by Annette Maughan, and all council members were present. The minutes from the December 7, 2021 meeting were approved with a motion from Council member Taggart and seconded by Council member Hagan. Payables from November 3 to December 21, 2021 were approved with a motion from Council member Giles and seconded by Council member Richardson.

REFORM - The Reform Council meeting for June 15, 2021 was called to order with only Council member Charlie Taggart absent. The council approved of the minutes from June 1 and the payables from June 2 to 15, 2021.
For discussion in old business for the sanitary sewer repair on 6th Avenue NW, there was little given in the meeting.
City Clerk Annette Maughan mentioned to Mayor Davis that Brandon Garrison, Water Superintendent, received a couple of names, but none had returned his calls.

Reform council discusses water tank issues

REFORM - On January 19, 2021, the Reform council meeting was called to order by Mayor Melody Davis with all council members present. Following the order of the agenda, the minutes from the last meeting of January 5, 2021 were approved, as well as the payables. Under Old Business, the council discussed issues with the water tank. “We are still working on the tank,” Davis said. “I tried to be more proactive on Facebook and let everybody know each step we took. I think I posted like maybe four or five different steps.
