Gordo City Council Gets Audit Report

At their meeting on Apr. 2, the Gordo City Council received the final results of the city’s audit report. The auditors, Richard LeCroy and Ryan Alexander from LeCroy, Hunter and Company, P.C. out of Northport, Ala., compared the city’s finances from Sept. 30, 2016 to Sept. 30, 2017. All day to day operations, approval of contracts, proper expenditures and proper use of the gasoline excise tax, were checked and all were found to be in complete compliance and conducted within proper procedures.

The city of Gordo has total investments of $315,405 as of Sept. 30, 2017, most of which were bond issues. “The town itself does not have a lot of debt,” said LeCroy. “The size of Gordo compared to other towns of this size or larger have a lot more debt. You are to be commended for managing the money well and not having to borrow money all the time.”

It was suggested, as far as internal procedures, the mayor continue to occasionally review the city’s deposits. Also suggested was making sure all businesses have all licenses needed and are being billed appropriately. Said Mayor Craig Patterson, “We use an outside agency for that.”
