Despite early turnovers, Aliceville was able to hold off several scoring threats by Shefield to hold off the Bulldogs 26-0 Friday night. Thee Yellow Jackets scored a pair of touchdowns in the first and second half and the defense proved strong, giving Aliceville its third shutout of the season.
“My hat goes off to our defense,” Aliceville head coach Melvin Pete said. “Our defense did what they were supposed to do.”
The teams traded punches for most of the first half, but Aliceville was the only one to make it into the end zone, as the Yellow Jackets defense held strong in the red zone. Quarterback Ka- von McGraw put Aliceville ahead 6-0 in the rst quarter on a 22-yard touchdown run with 7:49 remaining in the rst quarter. The snap went over McGraw’s head on the two-point conversion attempt and Zavien Wilkins recovered the ball for a 15-yard loss.
The Yellow Jackets forced a punt on the next possession, but McGraw tossed an interception on a long throw. Aliceville forced Shefield into a turnover on downs in the ensuing drive.
