Pete resigns as Aliceville Head Coach

ALICEVILLE - Aliceville Yellow Jackets head football coach Melvin Pete resigned last Thursday. Pete released the following statement to the Pickens County Herald on Friday: I, Melvin Pete, have submitted my official resignation as the coach at Aliceville High School, effective immediately. I appreciate the opportunities that have been given to me as the Head Football Coach at Aliceville High School. I wish the community, the school and school system nothing but the best now and into the future. To my players, I have enjoyed my time with you all here at Aliceville High School.

Protesters seek justice in death of Brandon Peoples

Protesters marched to the Aliceville Police Department on Saturday, June 27, 2020 demanding justice for the late Brandon Peoples, who was shot and killed on May 31st.

BY DEVERICK LONG Correspondent A month later, the family of the late Brandon Peoples, who was shot and killed on May 31, 2020, is still seeking answers. No arrest has been made and not much information regarding the case and investigation has been given to the family. On Saturday, June 28, a protest was held in Aliceville. Family, friends, and members of the community came together to march to the Aliceville Police Department to let it be known that they are seeking justice and answers.

Pickens County schools set graduation dates

After much deliberation, Pickens County Schools Aliceville, Gordo, and Pickens County finally set dates for graduation ceremonies and for the first time in recent memory, they will not all be on the same night.
“We threw out some parameters and we let the school make that decision because of everything that was going on,” Pickens County Superintendent Jamie Chapman said.

Aliceville man shot and killed on Jasper Road

Aliceville resident Brandon Peoples was shot to death on Sunday, May 31, at a residence on Jasper Road in Aliceville.

Aliceville resident Brandon Peoples, 28, was found shot and killed early on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at a mobile home on Jasper Road in Aliceville.
Police have a person of interest, but the investigation is still ongoing. No arrests have been made in the case as of Friday, June 5th.
Police stated that Peoples’ girlfriend owns the home where his body was discovered. Aliceville Police Chief said the shooting was being investigated as a homicide.
