Mayor Terrance Windham called the Aliceville City Council meeting to order on November 8, 2023. Councilwoman Rebecca Gilliam was not in attendance.
After the invocation, the minutes were approved with a motion from Councilman Chris Lewis and a second from Councilman Thomas Wilkins. The Council voted to pay the city’s bills with a motion from Councilman Lewis and a second from Councilman Wilkins.
A representative from the Maggie Bozeman and Julia Wilder Voter Participation Foundation addressed the Council members. She spoke to the Council and asked for the usage of the amphitheater at the Aliceville City Park for the Voter Participation Day on July 24, 2024, from noon until 7 p.m. This event will be family-friendly and will have lots of musical entertainment. The fee to get in is proof of voter registration. If a person is not registered to vote, they can do it at the event.
Windham announced that the City of Aliceville has a police officer who will graduate from the Police Academy next week. This new officer will make Aliceville’s Police Department finally fully staffed.
Fire Chief Derrick Jones wanted to remind everyone of the Burn Ban. He asked that citizens not burn anything until the ban has been lifted.
