DOUBLE SPRINGS - Following a defensive battle during the first half of their matchup, Aliceville used a strong third quarter to pull away from the Winston County Yellow Jackets and claim a 22-8 win during their Class 2A, Region 5 contest.
Following a scoreless first quarter, the teams were battling for momentum during the second period. Following a pair of punts from each squad, the visiting Yellow Jackets had the ball near midfield where they set up shop for the first scoring drive of the night.
Following runs of seven and three yards, Rodney Jones found room around the right end on third down as he raced 44 yards for the first score of the game.
Aliceville was good on the two-point try, giving the visiting Jackets an 8-0 lead with 6:36 left in the first half.
Aliceville controlled the third frame, putting up two scores. The first score came on the Jackets’ first drive of the third quarter. After taking possession of the ball on their own 32, it only took the visiting team one snap to find pay dirt as quarterback Kavon McGraw called his own number, racing the distance for the second score of the game.
