The Gordo Town Council held a brief meeting on Dec. 15 in conjunction with the Gordo Gas, Water, and Sewer Board, just before the town’s annual Christmas party. Mayor Craig Patterson gave the Council some updates on the water and sewer system. He announced that the Sullivan Water Plant had received a $1.6 million grant from the Alabama Department of Environment Management to get it up and running. The town’s utility board will put up $300,000 for the project, which will have a total cost of $1.9 million.
In other system updates, he said the town had to have work done on four pumping stations for the wastewater system, and one still has to be completed because they are still waiting on parts. The Gas, Water, and Sewer Board will move a certificate of deposit because they have found a better rate of interest, going from 1.2 percent to 3.8
percent, said, Patterson.
