Miss Kay’s Bakery and More will soon open its doors in the old bail bondsman building beside City Hall in Carrollton. Kristin Faulkner, an Ohio native, is the new owner. She and her husband have lived in Carrollton for about a year. Faulkner has been working at the sheriff’s department, but has resigned to open the new bakery.
“I’ve always loved baking,” said Faulkner. “About four years ago, I started baking cakes. I went to culinary school online for about a year. I haven’t quite finished the degree. When I found out I was pregnant, I put school on hold. I have about three months left. When I get this business going, I plan to finish school.”
When asked why she decided to open a bakery, she said, “I love baking, and they’ve always said if you’re going to work you might as well do something you love. So, I decided I might as well go ahead and do it.”
Faulkner will take orders at the bakery for cakes, cupcakes, cookies and pies. Breakfast sandwiches on freshly baked biscuits will be available daily along with homemade donuts, subs, soups, chips and milkshakes. Soft drinks, tea, coffee and iced coffee will also be available daily.
“I want to eventually expand,” said Faulkner. “I would eventually like to get a bigger building. I would like to have sit down areas. I want to slowly expand my business. I am really looking forward to having the opportunity to serve the community.”
The bakery’s hours of operation will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The bakery will be closed on Wednesdays. All items will be made from scratch daily and will be reasonably priced. There will be tables outside for people to sit and enjoy their food and shakes. The bakery is on schedule to open the middle of March.
