The Pickens County Board of Education held its monthly meeting at Aliceville High School on February 22, 2023. The meeting was called to order by Board President Annie Jackson. All Board members were present.
After the invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance, the agenda was approved with a motion from Board member Gene Dawkins and a second from Board member Sam Wiggins. A motion was made by Board member Dawkins, and the second was given by Board member Dr. John Brandon to approve the minutes from the January meeting, and they were approved. Payroll was approved with a motion from Board member Dr. Brandon and a second from Board member Wiggins.
Aliceville High School’s Student Government Association presented a program for the Board members. The Board was welcomed by senior Miya MCoy, SGA President. An original poem with artwork was presented by junior Michael Latham. The African American National Anthem was sung by the Aliceville High School Choir, and the poem My Black is Beautiful was recited by Zyreuna Cousette. Board member Frankie Spencer then recognized the Aliceville High School Football Coach and his team for their accomplishments this year. He emphasized that the Board is very proud of the team and coaches for all of their efforts on and off the field.
