Jabari Peoples, age 18 of Aliceville, was shot and killed around 9:30 p.m. on the night of June 23, 2025, by a Homewood police officer in the parking lot of the Homewood Soccer Complex. The family of Peoples and Mayor Terrence Windham are calling for the police to release the bodycam footage in the deadly shooting. The Homewood Police Department claims their officer saw the vehicle and smelled marijuana as he went up to the car. Homewood police attempted to arrest Peoples, and they claim that he resisted arrest. The policeman was knocked down to the ground, and that is when they say Peoples took the gun from the driver’s side door. At that time, the officer fired the deadly shot at Peoples. Peoples was taken to UAB hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
