The Aliceville Police Department is looking for new officers to add to the force. Current officers have been pulling a lot of overtime and recruits for small-town forces with small-town pay are few and far between. Especially certified and trained officers. Especially officers with experience. That experience and training is key to a well-rounded police department.
Aliceville Police Chief Tonnie Jones told the city council at the latest meeting on June 13, he had been interviewing some candidates. In fact, at the prior council meeting on May 30, the Aliceville council was introduced to an individual said to be a new officer. However, at some point since, that officer is not on staff, or never was. Even councilmembers were confused.
The topic of new police officers was briefly addressed as part of the meeting’s official agenda. “I know we got Chief (Jones) in the room,” said Councilman Terrence Windham in the June 13 meeting. “We just know that we are short on our (police department) staff and we just want to let you know we are pushing for as many applicants or qualified folks to come in and as soon as you have them, please forward them.”
