The Gordo Town Council learned at its May 1 meeting that Gov. Kay Ivey announced that the town's 2019 grant application for a splash pad and playground at the park had been approved.
In an April 27 letter to Mayor Craig Patterson, Gov. Ivey said that the town had received the $159,330.49 grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and will be administered by the Alabama Economic and Community Affairs.
Patterson said this is a 50-50 grant, with the town also putting up $159,330.49 to bring the total estimated cost of the project to $318,660. The splash pad/playground will be located at the town's PARA park on approximately one-half acre of land. Part of the town's funding will come from unspent COVID relief funds.
